Cook County Disaster Grant
$10.3million Grant to
Support Flood Victims in Cook
County
A $10.3million Grant has
been awarded to Cook County by the Illinois Disaster Assistance
Program to provide Health and Social Services following the Floods of
2008.
Thanks to the diligent efforts of the Cook County Board President, Todd H.
Stroger, and the Executive Director of the Cook County Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management,
David R. Ramos, Cook County has received funding to assist Cook County residents who are still facing health and
social welfare issues relating to the floods of 2008.
The Cook County Disaster Grant (CCDG) has been
established to assist businesses, families, and individuals who were impacted by the severe storms and flooding
that occurred between September 13th, 2008 and October 5th, 2008.
Cook County was one of
the counties covered by Presidential Federal Disaster Declarations, triggering FEMA’s public and individual
assistance programs. As helpful as these programs were, they did not address many of the human services needs of
Cook County residents.
In recognition of this, the US Health and Human Services
Agency has provided additional Social Services Block Grant (SSBG) funding to impacted Illinois counties,
specifically for health and human services needs.
This funding has been made available through the Office of
Security and Emergency Preparedness within the Illinois Department of Human Services.

“We are pleased to
announce this additional funding, which will help thousands of Cook County residents recover from the
devastating storms and flooding of 2008, especially in the midst of the current economic and housing crises that
many of our residents are also facing.”
